A Gift for Hovatter

Sonny and I celebrated our one year wedding anniversary today. Sonny is so easy and so hard to buy for at the same time. He always knows exactly what he wants the problem is it usually isn't something you can get and surprise him with it is something he has to pick out for himself.

Before we were even married I knew what I wanted to get him. As I'm sure I have mentioned before Sonny has taken up a hobby of building custom fishing rods. He was using a home made hand wrapper to do this. My plan was to buy him a power wrapper and be the best wife ever.

Sonny kinda has a problem of if he wants something he just gets it. I like everything to be a surprise so I'm never going to tell him not to get something.... You see where this is going? Three months before our anniversary he orders a power wrapper.

BUST**** WHAT TO GET NOW?

He has mentioned in passing before how he would like to have some Ernest Hemingway fishing books. So this sneaky little wife decides that's what I'm going to do. So what does Sonny end up doing? Bidding on the book on Ebay. At this point I have decided he isn't getting a gift =-P

Eventually I did get him a gift and he loved it! I was so excited he loved his gift so much!

Drum roll.....................The gift was a 1st Edition Zane Grey Tales of Fishes

I was very proud of my gift to him!

Soon I will add a blog about my gift equally as fabulous!

80 Is A Good Time for A First

Several weekends ago I attended my Uncle Georges 80th birthday party. He is a precious man. Even as a child I enjoyed being around him. As long as I can remember he has had a motor home and as long as I can remember I have been fascinated by them. My obsession started when I was 5 or 6 and he and Aunt Doris brought it for Christmas at our house. I slept in the bed above the drivers cabin and from then on I was hooked. Every time I see him for as long as I can remember he always ask me "You still saving for that motor home" My answer is always yes!

Here are a few pictures... I wasn't born yet =)
Uncle George and Aunt Doris

Uncle George, Uncle Mike (my mom's brother) and My Grand daddy
Mom, Doris, George
Doris and George live in Silver Creek, MS. The Party was in a beautiful old building in Monticello. People drove in from several states for the day. I drove over alone because Sonny had to work. The party was a ho-down theme with lots of yummy food and great company

The birthday party was the first one he ever had! Now that is just awesome and crazy at the same time!

There were over a hundred people at the party so when it was over and the cleaning complete the family headed back to their house to open presents.

The highlight of the day for me was that my Uncle Mike, Aunt Gloria, and cousin Heather from the Atlanta area drove down for the party and stayed with us Saturday night. I have no pictures because my camera died. I can assure you though a good time was had by all.

Laugh until we think we'll die, barefoot on a summer night never could be sweeter than with you

We are so blessed to be able to spend most of our weekends at the beach or the river. We're even more blessed to spend these weekends with the friends and family that make us complete.

We spent a weekend at the beach with The Welch's. Sonny got to take Whitney fishing and he was excited like a little kid on Christmas when Whitney finished the day with some fish.

Sonny has been fishing as long as he could stand so having the opportunity to share it with a friend that is a non-saltwalter fisher. Makes him so excited. I think it's sweet!

Whit's catch of the day!

We like to pretend we caught the fish!
But really we played on the beach and laughed the day away like the silly girls we are!

We spent another weekend at the beach with my sister and my nieces. I personally think Krista had the most fun she was up a 6am and on the beach the girls and I decided to sleep to more like ten.
This is one of my favorite pictures of the girls at the beach with me when I lived in Mobile.
Shelby is so grown up but still so much growing left to do.
 My sweet sister.
They really liked Sonny's bait fish behind the Condo!
Maggie the sweet precious child.
 Me and my Jelly!
 Shelby imitating a blow fish.
Maggie's personal misson throwing all the fish back to freedom.
 She likes to show off!
My Hovatter! Can't help but love him he has such patients with the girls they love him and I doubt they even remember life before him.

I personally think the best part of the trip was swimsuit shopping for Shelby. She wanted a bikini and Krista wasn't having it and the attiude that followed just made me laugh and laugh and eventually I was Shelby's voice of reason! Go figure!

The trip we took with Dj, Jordan, Whit and E. The boys went offshore and had a much more eventful day then they planned for! They caught fish and learned a life lesson =)

We had a much less eventful day at the beach.

Right when we got to the beach we heard sirens. We just happen to be down when the state park caught fire and burnt at least 500-600 acres don't think I ever heard the final count but it was defiantly something to see!

We all went to Cosmos for dinner. One of our favorite restaurants at the beach. Everyone enjoyed it even the guys who were falling asleep after about 10 hours on the boat! Its always nice to sit and listen to the one man band while waiting for a table!

Sunday of the trip I said goodbye to E and Jordan and meet up with my sweet friend Julie who lives in Birmingham. I miss her terribly and got to meet her new beau and his sweet sweet family!

We got to spend a few hours floating around the lazy river before Hovatter scooped me back up and we were North bound once again.

We spend a weekend at the river with the Hills. Tracie found a sand bar near there house and spent who knows how long cleaning it out. We grilled yummy food and hung out in the knee deep water. The Perfect way to kill time in the South!

I love this picture of E enjoying the watermelon we all had some. Sonny was most likely picking on E and Jordan was sitting on DJ! Priceless =)
In the background you can see a little baseball being played with a stick and rock of course!

This was the first time ever I fished the Alabama Deep Seas Fishing Rodeo. I fished with Sonny and Brian. Sonny fishes every year with the "fishing team" but this year they were all spread out and Brian had to stay in close since he was excepting a baby at any moment. Sonny built me a new King rod before our trip. I was so excited just to be on the boat because I adore being on the water. By far the best part of the day was when we tied off to a rig and I heard my reel going off. Okay so maybe we didn't hear it because they were fighting another fish and the boat near us yelled to let us know. Either way I got very excited and wanted to do it all by myself. I got it to the boat and the sharks started moving in on it and I was panicking. But soon it was gaffed and in the boat with us! I caught a couple more that day but will always remember the experience of catching my first King Mackerel!!!

We spent  another weekend at pine island on the Pascagoula River. We did a whole lot of nothing and had a whole lot of fun. Unfortunately I don't have a picture of me tripping on an under water log or Jordan and I hiding from the rain under my float or the visit to Huck's Cove but here are a few I do have!

For what is most likely our last weekend at the beach with friends this year. Jordan, Sonny, E, Whit and I all headed down last weekend. D.J.  had to work and couldn't come so Jordan rode down with Sonny and I on Friday and The Welch's joined us on Saturday!

Friday afternoon Jordan and I had some serious girl time on the beach while Sonny fished =)

Dinner at Shucker's followed by a little Flora-Bama!

When we left Sunday I couldn't help but feel sad like summer was ending. We spend so many weekends at the beach and I know Sonny and I will be back several more times before it turns cold but I couldn't help feeling like change was in the air. I know there is always next summer but it almost felt like an end to an era and in other ways felt so much like the first summer we spent together at the beach 8 years ago! Maybe it's just the serious case of winter blues I had last year and I'm not ready for that to end. Maybe its that Sonny will be 30 in January and we have no way of knowing what's in store for us. No matter what the future hold for us some of my most precious memories will always involve the beach!
