This post and many others to come I'm sure will be all about baby. Why all about baby you ask? Well, because that's what the last three weeks and four days have been about! So if you don't care feel free to excuse yourself from this post ;) I know I better write my thoughts down while they are fresh on my mind or months from now I will forget to write them or the facts will be fuzzy.
Let's start at the beginning...
Barrett was due on October 21, 2012. For whatever reason he thought it was best to keep his head up and we were scheduled for a caesarean section on October 15, 2012. Here you can read about our weekend leading up to the big day!
The Future Comes One Day At Time
Sonny and I woke up between 2:30 and 2:45. I was having a very vivid dream that I went in for my C-section and Toby(our dog) was trying to jump inside my body. Once awake Sonny and I couldn't go back to sleep so we went in the living room and watched the Lion King we had DVR'd months before. Around 4:00 Sonny decided to try to go back to sleep. I knew if went back to sleep it would be so difficult to get up so I decided to take a long hot bath, shower and get dressed. We had to be at the hospital at 6a.m. Around 5:00 I woke Sonny back up to start getting dressed. We loaded the truck and took a few pictures before heading to the hospital.
Toby wanted in the picture of me in Barrett's nursery before leaving for the hospital

Take note that the house was spotless with the exception of his reel taken apart on the end of the bar!
Also notice he is wearing blue in all the pictures!
We left for the hospital bright and early. We were a few minutes late because we had to stop and drop something off at Sonny's job! When we registered I politely informed them I was an employee and wanted a big room! HaHa I figured it couldn't hurt to ask! It must have worked out because the room was nice and spacious!
After we registered we walked into our room and waited a good 45 minutes before anyone came in. When they changed shifts at seven I met my two nurses and they started all of the prep for surgery. Around 8:45 the nurse came back in to ask if we had anyone coming. Sonny and I had previously decided we wanted to be alone until several hours after he was born. We informed her it would just be us. She said "I was just gonna tell you if someone was coming they wanted to come on because it is probably going to be sooner then later." We had been told the week before the delivery would be sometime between 9 and 10. She couldn't have had the door shut good before I burst into nervous tears. As Sonny neared by bedside to comfort me I really thought I was going to have a panic attack! He got me a wash cloth and wiped my tears as I took deep breaths to calm down. The nurse shortly came back in and was so sweet when she saw I was upset. She did her very best to make me feel at ease. I had started to drift off in the mist of a prayer for comfort when the very answer to that prayer walked through the door. The nurse anesthetist was a breath of fresh air and completely calmed all my fears. He made me feel so at ease and kept me comforted and calm until I returned to my room. He was wearing an Alabama surgical cap and Sonny joked with him that was the only reason I let him in. He told him if he would have walked in with LSU on his head I would have sent him packing! (which is probably true) ha!

How cute does he look! |
During the delivery I was much more out of it then I expected to be which in my opinion was a good thing!
Somethings I remember are....
- Sonny telling me "he has hair, and it's not red! "
- I was convinced it would be red because we have so much on both side of our families and when I envisioned Barrett I saw a brown hair, blue eyed boy
- When he was born they said 9:23 to mark the time.
- I promptly said 9 pounds that huge and the whole room had a good laugh
- They wrapped him up and handed him to Sonny who brought him around for me to see
- I said he looks like a Gardner (Sonny's mom's side of the family)
- I also though his lips were huge
- I gave him a kiss and Sonny went with him back to our room
- At Wesley they play a nursery chime everytime a baby is born
- I remember hearing Barrett's and thinking all of my co-workers who were one floor under us were probably wondering if it was for him!
- While I was laying there they called back from our room to let me know our sweet boy was 7 pounds 4 ounces.
After what felt like an hour they wheeled me back to our room where Sonny greeted me! The first thing I said as they rolled me through the door was instructions for him to put Barrett's birth announcement on the door. During the next two hour I wasn't loving our big room with my sweet baby all the way on the other side. They were testing him out you know making sure he had 10 fingers and 10 ten toes all the good stuff! He screamed the entire time except when Sonny would walk over and say something to him or touch his hand. I called down stairs and answered some texts messages and told everyone that he was born at 9:44 oops!

After getting his bath they dressed our sweet baby wrapped him up and brought him to me! At around 12:30 I finally had quite shaking uncontrollably from the medication and was able to hold my sweet boy! |
